Question Time

What are your hobbies and what do you like doing in your spare time?

Lisa: I have absolutely loads! I enjoy yoga, meditation, running, cycling, walking with the family and dog, spending time with friends, shopping and spending money. If I am at home I enjoy watching films, calligraphy writing and I actually love cleaning and tidying (luckily as I live with 3 boys).

Sophie: I really enjoy going for walks or snuggles with my sausage dog Archie, spending quality time with family and friends. I also love going out for dinner and cocktails! My hobbies are experimenting with makeup and going for a swim!

Clare: With a busy family life, spar time is a rarity but when we do have time my husband and I enjoy watching live music and going to festivals with friends.

What jobs have you had in the past?

Lisa: When I was younger I worked in retail. Once I left college I worked as a General Ledger Clerk, Payroll Administrator and Payroll Bureau of a chartered accountants as a Supervisor.

Sophie: I have worked in childcare for the past 12 years. Prior to working at Tutti Frutti, I worked at a private day nursery for 8 years reaching the role of Deputy Manager.

Clare: In the past, I have mainly worked in offices in customer services roles or administration. Basically, whatever fitted in with family life at the time.

When and why did you decide to be a Beauty Therapist?

Lisa: Long story but the shortened version… I had my first baby, Jamie, and needed to do something to fit in with being a Mummy. I started with Avon and found I had a passion for all things beauty. I went to college and trained to become a Beauty Therapist, began working from home and Tutti Frutti grew along with my passion and love.

Sophie: When I left school, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. It was either childcare or beauty therapy. I chose childcare and for 12 years I had a successful career. Beauty was always at the back of my mind and has always interested me. Once I had completed my makeup artist course, I got the bug. I loved how I could help people feel good about themselves. I am still new to beauty therapy but I am loving it!

Clare: I’ve always had an interest in the beauty industry and have enjoyed reading and trying out (within reason) the latest products and techniques at home and in salons. It was a chance visit to the college with my son that I felt myself drawn towards the beauty department. Walking around and talking to the lecturers something clicked. It just felt right and that is where and what I should be doing with my life. It still took me a year to build up the confidence to apply but with the support of my family thank god I did, onward and upwards!

Which courses did you enjoy the most and why?

Lisa: I fell into the first Eyelash Extension course I did. Eyelashes had only just began to become ‘a thing’. In all honesty I had no idea what they really were. I didn’t know anyone who either offered the service at the time, or had eyelash extensions themselves. I was offered the course along with another I had booked and just thought ‘why not!’ I instantly fell in love with them. I find doing lashes really therapeutic. It certainly takes patience and a steady hand. It’s not for all Therapists, I’d say it’s like Marmite – you either love doing them or hate them. I still enjoy lashing the most. I enjoy creating new looks, using new products and techniques. I have just trained in Russian Lashes and although they are even more fiddly I absolutely love doing them and love the ability to create bespoke fans adding volume and length.

Sophie: I really enjoyed the Mani and pedi course. This was the first course I completed at Tutti Frutti. I really enjoyed it as it was all new to me.

Clare: When I first started college manicures and pedicures were my favourite as they are very visual and you can see instant results. By the end of the course, facials and massage treatments were by far my favourite. I’m quite a tactile person and these treatments are obviously very hands on relying on not just visual but touch to identify and address areas of concern.

What treatments do you enjoy doing the most now and why?

Lisa: Eyelash Extensions are still my favourite but I have to say with the busy life of running a business and looking after the family, I do really enjoy facials and massages. I love turning the lights down and lighting the candles, popping on some relaxation music and just flowing with the massage movements. I think the client enjoys it too.

Sophie: Has to be Eyelash extensions. It really is an art and requires a lot of attention to detail. Every set is so different. I love creating different styles whether it be classic or a volume set. It is the best feeling when a client opens their eyes, looks in the mirror with a big smile on their face.

Clare: Facials and massages are still my favourite treatments to carry out on clients. I just love everything about them. To help someone achieve either their skin care goals, alleviate discomfort or just to simply relax and switch off from our busy lives and to see them visibly do this in front of you knowing you have a small part in helping them is the best feeling.

What do you love about your job?

Lisa: I love absolutely everything. I love the business and I feel proud to have achieved all that I have. I love the team who are all supportive and wonderful friends. I love all my clients. I have such a treasured relationship with my clients. I love to spend time with them putting the world to rights and laughing and laughing. I love that my job is seeing 10 or more friends every single day and spending quality one on one time with them. It is just so special and I am truly blessed.

Sophie: I love being a Beauty Therapist. I am a very creative person and beauty allows me to explore this. Beauty is still quite new to me, it has been exciting to finally try something new and to challenge myself.

Clare: What’s not to love?! I get to meet, talk and work with amazing people every day. Lisa and the girls are so supportive with their years of experience and knowledge. I know I can go to them for advice any time. They have helped, guided and supported me to develop into the therapist I am.

What do you like about our salon?

Lisa: Of course the salon is my baby, it comes from my heart. I have nothing but love for it but I do particularly love the atmosphere and that is created by all the wonderful people who visit and the smiles, attitude and hard work of the Tutti Frutti Team. It is always happy in the salon. I instantly feel happy stepping through the door.

Sophie: Tutti Frutti is a beautiful salon. I have not lived in Andover for very long and everyone at Tutti Frutti have been lovely, warm and welcoming. I am very honoured to be part of the team!

Clare: I am still new to the industry and constantly learning all the time. I feel lucky to be working at Tutti Frutti. It is such a warm, relaxing and welcoming salon that just puts people at ease. It’s a great place to work, in fact it doesn’t feel like work when you’re there, it’s more like catching up with friends.

What is your favourite Beauty product?

Lisa: Wow I’m not sure which to pick. These days I use so many. I think mine would have to be the MAC Prep + Prime Fix + Makeup Setting Spray. I use it for all my brides and makeup treatments but I also swear by it myself. I often wake up with a full face of perfect makeup after a night out. No, I did not just confess to not removing my makeup at night lol. Don’t worry I rarely have a night out these days!

Sophie: I don’t really have a favourite beauty product. However I could not live without makeup!

Clare: There are two products that I wouldn’t want to live without. One is a hair shine that I have been using, from the Body Shop, since I was 16. I helps to tame and add shine to my, otherwise, dull hair. The second product I have been using for the past 18 months and is Squalene cleanser from a company called The Ordinary. I have quite sensitive skin and this cleanser doesn’t irritate it at all. It just leaves my skin feeling deeply cleansed soft and supple. I am a firm believer that good skincare doesn’t have to cost the earth. It’s just a case of finding the right product for you.
